Denise Esser's "FUTURE PERFECT" at SPRMRKT

Last Saturday Denise Esser presented her collection of designs FUTURE PERFECT at Rozengracht Store SPRMRKT.
Ms Esser's designs balance on the edge of fashion, concept and art. In this collection she used almost solely black, white and grey/metallic fabrics. A striking feature are the geometrically shaped pieces made of welded metal wire, which were worn around the arm or neck or incorporated in the fabrics, forming cubic shaped shoulders or details.
One of ms Esser's jackets (below) had sleeves with nails, pins and fur, forming a strange soft to hard gradient.

AIFW Downtown 2010 kicks off at Maison de Bonneterie

And so finally it's upon us again! AIFW director Merle Deterink, officially opened the Amsterdam Fashion Week Downtown programme on Saturday at Maison de Bonneterie. The main hall of the Rokin fashion department store was packed with champagne sipping enthusiasts, while singer Trijntje Oosterhuis performed, with a surprise visit by famed jazz saxofonista Candy Dulfer.
Ms Deterink also recieved the first copy of the fashion week glossy 'Frontrow' from Grazia editor-in-chief Hilmar Mulder.

In the store, the opening marked the start of the nine day 'Fashion Week Designers Market', where AIFW designers and labels like Jan Taminiau, Bibi van der Velden, Mada van Gaans, EnD by Eva & Delia, Ontfront and NON by Kim will be showing and selling their creations. Most of the designers were present to advise and talk to press and visitors.

Meanwhile at their Statement Store nearby, Amsterdam Fashion Institute's (AMFI) initiative INDIVIDUALS kicked off the week as well. Highlight of AMFI's presence during the AIFW will be the INDIVIDUALS catwalk show at the Westergasfabriek on Januari 28th; a collection designed by students of the academy.
